The high-profile summit in Alaska between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday was marked by a friendly tone but ended earlier than expected – and without a deal to end, or even pause, the nearly 3.5-year conflict — the largest land war in Europe since 1945.
Mr. Trump called the 2.5-hour summit “extremely productive” but added, “There’s no deal until there’s a deal.” Mr. Putin, for his part, said he expected the day’s agreements to become “a reference point for solving the Ukrainian problem.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was excluded. – AP
