Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and we’ve always been transparent about that.
The church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Lately, I keep thinking back to a piece from the 2014 Israel-Gaza war when our Gaza correspondent and I asked parents on both sides of the conflict how they were answering their children’s questions about the war . In this much more devastating war, the questions – and answers – are no doubt a lot harder. Yet parents still provide a unique window into the conflict. Today, we hear from a Palestinian father of three who can’t find so much as a patch of land to pitch a tent ahead of a fresh Israeli military offensive, and Israeli mothers opposed to their sons serving in Gaza.
